How to Cope with A Level Results: Embracing God’s Plan

This week, 18-year-olds across the country received their A Level results. Results day marks the culmination of many years of hard work by students. After dedicating countless hours and tireless effort to their A Levels and other qualifications, results day is the grand reveal at the end of it all. Did I pass? Did I get the results I need for my UCAS offer? These questions and many more will be flooding the minds of everyone receiving results this week.

Results day is a time to celebrate all the hard work students have put into their A Levels. But if you find that you didn’t get the results you were hoping for, don’t be too disheartened. I know it’s easier said than done; I remember what it’s like opening my results and feeling disappointed with what I received. It’s easy to think that bad results have ruined everything for the rest of our lives, but that is not the case.

As a teenager, I remember a Bible verse that kept coming up at youth group and other youth church events. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says: ‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”’1 When we feel a bit lost in life, we can remember that God has a plan for us, and it’s a good one. God’s plan is filled with hope and goodness rather than misfortune and harm; it’s a future where we will prosper and everything will be alright in the end. It can be hard to stay positive if results day didn’t go as you hoped, but hold on to God’s promise to be with you and guide you towards a bright future. Just wait and see what God has in store for you.
