Last night I woke in the middle of the night and found myself unable to get back to sleep (at least for a while). My mind was racing with lots of thoughts for the next day. What do I need to do, who do I need to meet, and so on… Some of you can probably relate to this.

Another common reason for being unable to sleep is because of excitement. Think of a young child who cannot sleep on Christmas Eve or the night before their birthday. Or think of someone who has become engaged and is so overjoyed that they can’t switch off to go to sleep. I wonder if any of us have this same kind of excitement about Jesus. Does Jesus keep us awake at night with excitement? Or might Jesus keep you awake at night with deep questions and contemplation as you try to wrap your head around the greatness of who he is? I don’t know how often this happens to us, nor is it a given that our love of Jesus must equate to sleeplessness. However, I think it is worth asking: are we this excited and caught up with Jesus? Does Jesus capture our imagination and the depths of our hearts? Is Jesus being alive the greatest and most exciting news for your life? Will it keep you awake at night because of how amazing it is? If it is, that’s great. If it isn’t, why? At Easter, we celebrated the greatest news in the whole of human history. The Easter joy isn’t just for Easter but forever. I encourage you to delight in the excitement of Jesus being alive and that he brings his new and risen life to us each day. It’s so exciting you won’t want to go to sleep.
